hand injury compensation scotlandHand injuries, whether through an accident at the workplace or anywhere else, can signal a complete change of lifestyle. If your injury wasn't your fault, our personal injury solicitors in Edinburgh can help you make a claim.

Injuries to the Hands or Fingers

We probably don't appreciate just how much we use our hands in day-to-day life. But when your hand is injured or amputated, the effects can be devastating. If you have suffered a hand or finger injury in the last three years, you may be entitled to compensation.

Compensation Values for Hand & Finger Injury in Scotland

Compensation for hand and finger injury varies depending on the nature and severity of the injury.

The values listed below are for guidance only. These reflect only the 'pain and suffering' amount that a Scottish Court may award, not wage loss and other losses you could claim (see our compensation calculator page for an explanatory note of the types of damages in Scotland). You should also be aware that the value you may achieve will largely be dictated by the quality and experience of the solicitor dealing with your case.

Hand Injury:

Minor hand injury with full recovery: £700 - £3,300

Serious hand injury with a 50% disability: £22,050 - £47,050.

Finger Injury:

Fracture or amputation of a finger or part of a finger: up to £19,000;

Loss of a thumb: £27,000 - £41,675

Amputation of a little finger: up to £9300

Wrist Injury:

Fractures with complete recovery: up to £7800.

Uncomplicated fractures: up to £5650

Serious wrist injury resulting in the loss of function of the wrist: up to £45,500.

A hand can still be rendered useless short of amputation though, and even minor hand and finger injuries, such as crushing injuries, wounds, lacerations and soft-tissue injuries, can be deserving of compensation.

Factors taken into consideration when awarding compensation for a hand or finger injury include quality of life, employment prospects, and loss of earnings if your hands are vital to your work. The severest hand injuries include total loss of one or both of the hands, and whether or not a prosthesis can be fitted will certainly be taken into account too.
