Woman Takes Legal Action Following Slip in London Gastropub

A HR representative who sustained a fractured wrist after tripping over a rope outside of a pub in London.

Following the incident, Carmen Mazo, suffered an injury as a result of her fall in the Notting Hill area. As well as suffering pain due to the incident, she also claims that the accident destroyed her career and resulted in her having unsightly scars and post-traumatic arthritis. Furthermore she also claimed that the incident had a devastating impact on her mental health and social life.

The legal action currently being sought by Mazo comes despite the claimant having already taken legal action. In 2013, Mazo was awarded £156,871 at Central London county court after she sued the pub’s operators and they admitted liability for the accident. However, she has been given permission to appeal against the amount she was awarded as she believes that she is entitled to a significantly larger sum.

Damages awarded for birth-related injury

A 15-year-old boy has been awarded £6.5 million to meet the costs of his care requirements after a hospital error led to him suffering severe brain damage shortly after birth, reports the BBC.

Ewan Waker was sent home from hospital by midwives at Harold Wood Hospital in Havering, despite blood tests revealing that he had very low blood sugar levels. The severity of his condition was only picked up when a community midwife visited him and his mother at home.

The error led to Ewan suffering severe brain damage and needing specialist care for the rest of his life.

Costume designer sues after staircase fall

A costume designer is suing the National Film and Television School for damages after she was injured falling off a staircase, reports the Telegraph.

Sunwoo Chun, who was carrying out voluntary work at Beaconsfield Studios, had climbed the unprotected stairs to adjust an actor's trousers. She stepped backwards, fell three metres and broke her spine. She has been left paralysed from the chest down and relies on help from family and professional carers to carry out day to day tasks.

According to the Telegraph, she is claiming £300,000 in compensation for her injuries.
